Drafting

Riding a 50-mile distance on WOD trail this past Saturday was slightly different than usual. Three other bikers helped me account for the difference. What started as my attempt to catch some wind protection (draft) behind them quickly evolved into (fairer) sharing of the leader duties. We rotated every half a mile/one mile or so for the next 13 miles (between Route 28 and Leesburg). To summarize: we averaged about 24 miles per hour by working like rabbits under the dog’s command. If I could only make my Polar CS200 excise two 3-5-minute “chocolate breaks” I have taken on my way back, this would probably be one of my best personal times. This way the computer showed the total exercise time of 2h 39min 55sec, while the “net” ride time was only a few seconds shorter, i.e., it did not “pardon” my breaks. Also, the ride rid the World of about 2200 kcal.
